Alice in Wonderland Concept Shoot | Mad Tea Party | James Tang Photography
I collaborate with other artists during the slow time of the year to keep myself active. Alice in Wonderland was a concept shoot in collaboration with my creative friends over at Alterverse Cosplay. A typical shoot like this usually involves a lot of people and can be costly, but we managed to do everything with just the 5 of us with a minimal budget. This includes make up, wardrobe, hair, stage setup and break down, different lighting equipment, and photography. It wasn’t an easy shoot but it helped that we planned out each and every scene at our creative meeting. Everyone involved did an amazing job. We were out in 40 degrees weather for almost 8 hours, with occasional warming and bathroom breaks. It wouldn’t have been too bad if Justen, Beth, and Samantha were not in costumes that didn’t provide much warmth. For me as a photographer, it was an amazing experience to work with such a talented group of people.
The concept is an interpretation of the original version of Alice In Wonderland, starting at where Alice got lost and stumbled upon the tea party of Mad Hatter and March Hare. They were so into what they were doing and didn’t notice Alice at first. Once Alice was noticed, she was not welcomed. At one point, she got frustrated at being ignored so she stormed out of the party. However, was this just a dream or did it really happen?
